Any ideas/guesses/wishes for the 2004 GA Archives? This does not count the perennials, such as All-Star, Plastic Man, Spirit, which appear to be a given. Assuming we get at least 6 other GA Volumes to choose from, I'd like to see, in order of importance to me: GA Sandman #1 (Of course) What would YOU like to see? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well, my top 6 from the D. Stepp poll was: 1- Sandman 1 Since I now get to add a 6th book, I will list Blackhawk 2! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Wants or expectations? Wants are not the meaningful probably. My best guestimation (assuming we get 6) is: Wonder Woman #4 I imagine the Superman itch will be scratched with Man of STeel #1. Batman is uncertain. They may also exceed 6 next year and do 7 and 7. The Dr. Fate should be somewhat cheap since many of those tales have been reprinted. Also, Plastic Man may run out of gas soon as the Cole content may be getting a little lite. D. IP: Logged |

A few questions: Just when *will* we start to see significant amounts of non-Cole work in the Plastic Man Archives? IIRC, up through V4 it's all, or mostly Cole. Is it a fairly clean break, or a period of transition with varying amounts of work by Cole and others? Does anybody have a breakdown? Also, has there been any indication from DC that they intend to finish off Starman anytime soon? Just how many Burnley stories are left, and how dramatic is the shift in quality after he leaves? OK, if DStepp says its seven, its seven: Shazam 4 and All Star 10 are both be on my personal 'would love to see' list as well as near the top of the general 'very likely to appear' list. After that, I'm guessing Simon & Kirby are overdue for an archive (if Joe Simon isn't currently suing anyone) and I think it'll be Newsboy Legion 1, possibly cross-promoted with the 70s Newsboy Legion revival in Kirby's Jimmy Olsen run, which we're told is getting a TPB. Sandman would be a more obvious S&K volume, but what do you do abnout the green-suit-and-gasmask version? (I know WE know what do do, archive it now, but I'm not sure DC's thinking that way) And then: Wildcat? Popular character in JSA, maybe due a mini-series, possibly going to be popping up occasionally in Catwoman. The archive could happen. I'd buy it... IP: Logged |

Depends in part on the rest of 2003. I'm (back to) provisionally assuming that the mystery GA volume 1 this year is GA Hawkman. If Hawkman isn't the choice for the sixth slot this year, then I thnk we'll have it next year. But this year's still could be Superboy, or the All-Star/BAACB compilation. If not Superboy this year, than if it's finally available, it'll be next year in place of the Superman volume I list below. Anyhow, for 2004, I'm for no real reason assuming a continuing expansion to 16, split 9/7 Silver/Gold: My personal preferences would be much more expansive in both numbers of volumes and numbers of new lines: I don't care if I see any new Golden Age Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman material published for the next several years. If I were the publisher, and publishing for my own preference (but with some sort of eye on being able to sell these things), I'd do something like: IP: Logged |

Wasn't All American Western an Anthology? I don't see them archiving that, concidering their treatment of superhero antholgies. Chris IP: Logged |

If DC issues a "Comic Cavalcade Archives", in its entirety, the no-anthology rule is repealed. Any anthologies that haven't had a character Archived can be potential Archives. If a line-up is strong enough, DC might give it consideration. That said, I don't expect it. Not anytime soon, anyway. IP: Logged |

Actually, I would love an anthology Archive, but I don't see it happening either. I forgot about Comic Cavalcade, though. DC's not really a company to stick hard and fast to the rules. The prefer to pick and choose, pragmatically jumping around depending on the individual circumstance. Chris IP: Logged |

How about Shining Knight? (I know the Frazetta issues were near the end and wouldn't be in volume 1, but how many would it take? And how good were the pre-Frazetta issues?) IP: Logged |

OK, I'm assuming 7 volumes in '04.
Plastic Man might be out of gas; the Diamond numbers have been dropping steadily, so I'll say it moves to a bi-annual frequancy. No Plas in '04. I really wanted to put Captain Marvel on the roster, but couldn't with both Starman and Flash getting some long deserved love. Marvels get an annual spot starting in '05 (the reproduction barrier will be broken in '06, so Jr can start alternating with Cap) I thought about "Superman in WFC" in place of Sandman, but I think the SA Superman will take that spot. Still no Superboy. If it suddenly gets the green light, the one to bump would be Sandman (that just bumps him to the top of the '05 list). Damn, there just aren't enough slots! IP: Logged |

quote: Someone, I think Steve or Owen, but I'm not sure, mapped out 15 volumes of Plastic Man which completed all of the Quality issues. As I recall, 13 were solid Cole. I haven't confirmed this. I think Starman has only three or four Burnley stories. I have no idea how it changes after he left, although I think he was arguably the best DC artist at the time. As for my 6: 1. Starman 2 Of course, this doesn't mean that I don't really want to see Hawkman, Sandman, and Dr. Fate or any of the other series continue. IP: Logged |

If there ae six golden age volumes in2004, I'd like to see: Shazam volume 4 Captain Marvel Junior volume 1 (assuming it's feasible) Mary Marvel volume 1 Dark Knight volume 4--this is too far behind the Detective issues right now and needs to catch up. I'd rather more early golden age Batman stories then Detective stories about to head into the early 1950's. Hawkman volume 1 (assuming we don't get it this year) Blackhawk volume 2 --this is one of the very best war comics in history, and also one of the most enduring --Mark IP: Logged |

Robin's solo strip appeared in Star Spangled Comics #65-130. I believe it would take 3 volumes to cover it all. IP: Logged |

My Picks would be: GA Hawkman Realisticly I think we'll see More Bats, Supes, and probably Wonder Woman and maybe another volume for GA Green Lantern and/or GA Flash. GA Hawkman or Sandman may have a chance. Since we can't even get 2nd book of SA Hawkman, I'm not holding my breath. IP: Logged |

Hmmm... assuming GA Hawkman 1 in 2003: All Star 10 (given) Wonder Woman 4 This slights Superboy 1 and a GA Batman, so I'm not sure how they can all fit in -- tough problem! IP: Logged |

I'm really hoping the remaining #1 this year is a compilation. Either Comic Cavalcade stuff or the All-Star/Big All-American idea. That's my hope. The likely candidate is Sandman, the less likely is Superboy. After that is one of the above compilations. Should Sandman be this year, then that slot for next year would go to Superman in WFC, not Cap. I'm trying to think with my head and not my heart. I think there is enough difference between GA Superman and SA Superman that they would pull in very different sets of customers. IP: Logged |

Maybe, but we'll probably also have either Supergirl or World's Finest (both if the final Silver Age slot this year is neither). Wouldn't that, plus SA Superman, plus a Golden Age Superman title (three and a half out of fourteen--or even sixteen), be too much of the Superman franchise? We seem to be agreed that between this year and next, we'll probably see both GA Hawkman and GA Sandman, though. IP: Logged |
